Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Job Details

  • Shift Length: 10 or 12 hours, based on need
  • Schedule: Includes occasional call and weekends
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • Traveler Eligibility: Accepts first-time travelers
  • Distance Requirement: Must live within 100 miles of the facility

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience working in General OR, Pediatric General OR, and Trauma
  • Ability to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Certifications & Licenses

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - verify unit requirements
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - verify unit requirements
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for ER; can be pending at start but preferred before starting
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - highly preferred for ER candidates
  • State License Primary Source Verification required
  • NURSYS Verification required
  • National Certification/Verification for applicable tech roles
  • Annual Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required if licensed/certified in TN or working in TN

Orientation & Scheduling Notes

  • General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs)
  • 16 hours of nonbillable orientation required
  • Hospital may cancel/call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing (ID photo standards apply)
  • Completion of various facility-specific forms and acknowledgements (uniform guidelines, dress code, exposure statements, smoking/tobacco use, influenza policy, respirator medical evaluation, etc.)
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms must be completed timely
  • Candidates must review CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Respiratory fit testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • MMR titers (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) or documentation of vaccination/boosters
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella titer or documentation of vaccination/boosters
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • General competency exam required
  • Skills checklist required

References

  • Minimum 2 references accepted; 3 preferred

This position offers a dynamic environment in a Level 1 Trauma Center with opportunities to work across multiple OR specialties and trauma care, supporting both patient care and nursing education.
