Location: New Haven, Connecticut

Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Patient Ratios: Average 1:2
- Experience Required: Minimum 3 years
- First-time Travelers: Not accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Must float within scope to other pediatric units as needed (Pediatric ED, NNICU, inpatient departments, psychiatric unit)
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- Special Requirements: Experience in cardiac critical care preferred; CRRT and ECMO certifications preferred
Contract Length
- Duration: 13 weeks

- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Preferred/Additional Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- CRRT and ECMO certifications (preferred)
Floating Details
Travelers will be expected to float to various units within the children’s hospital, including Pediatric ED, NNICU, inpatient departments, and psychiatric unit. When floating, travelers must take assignments and care for assigned patients. It is recommended to connect with the Charge RN for orientation or questions when floating outside PICU.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
- Verification of highest level of education
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (no attestations)
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure (if applicable)
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (85% passing score)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, 80% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU units)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for pediatric specialties (declination accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination preferred

- Blood administration module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
- New employee orientation module
- 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart training module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone policy training
- EPIC testing or training (highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
- Vaccination booster medical exemption process
Additional Notes
- Floating assignments require flexibility and willingness to work in multiple pediatric care areas.
- Pending licenses are accepted, but must apply for CT license within 72 hours of assignment.
- Multiple certifications and competency exams must be current and verified.
- Extensive background checks and education verifications are mandatory.
- Compliance with facility-specific training modules and health documentation is required before or at orientation.
This position is ideal for experienced PICU nurses with pediatric critical care expertise who are comfortable floating within pediatric units and meeting comprehensive credentialing and compliance standards.
