Registered Nurse - Pediatric Critical Care (PICU)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Critical Care FP (PICU focus)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2; if floating to NICU, ratio may be 1:3
- Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years of recent PICU or CVPICU experience
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW); open to blocked weekend scheduling
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, floating between NICU, PICU, and CVPICU within scope
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Max 7 days RTO; if 1 consecutive week off, must add that week to end of contract
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week (no overtime until after 48 hours)
- Special Requirements: Must have strong PICU experience and be comfortable floating to CVPICU, NICU, and PICU

Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, valid and not expiring within 30 days of start
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required based on unit/specialty, AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required based on unit/specialty, AHA/AAP only
- CHEMO certification - Required based on unit/specialty
- State Nursing License - Copy required before start, primary source verification required
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP) - Required
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam at orientation (must score 84% or higher, 2 attempts allowed; not required for per diem)

- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually

Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (can be completed online or as part of physical)

Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 30 days of start, including latex allergy information
- Fit test for N95 mask (1860 or 1870+) within 1 year of start, updated annually; PAPRs accepted
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (TD and DTap not accepted)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 60 days of start; chest x-ray if past positive or new converter
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values and reference ranges
- Hepatitis B series and quantitative surface antibody titer with lab values; declination form accepted if declining
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values (LabCorp exceptions apply)
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (must include marijuana)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption form required during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes
- Latex questionnaire if latex allergy info not included on physical exam
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (must meet strict guidelines, completed immediately after signing)
- Completion of facility-specific training modules prior to start (including COVID-19 vaccine training)
- Medication study guide provided for orientation test preparation
- Emergency contact information form
- TB Exposure/PPD Conversion Record if applicable
- Workramp modules for non-RN roles (not applicable for this RN position)
- Medical or religious exemption forms for flu vaccine if applicable
References
- Two professional references dated within the past two years, preferably supervisors or managers; cannot be pending at start
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care nurses comfortable working in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment with flexibility to float between related intensive care units.
