Travel RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) - Longview, TX

Position Summary

• Perioperative RN working collaboratively with surgeons and healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Practices intraoperatively at the direction of the surgeon; does not function concurrently as a scrub nurse.
• Roles include circulating, scrubbing, and first assist in surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage surgical patient care using the nursing process; complete and document patient assessments and care plans.
• Maintain sterile field and aseptic technique; monitor surgical team movement and correct breaks in technique.
• Prepare and provide surgical equipment and supplies appropriate to patient needs.
• Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts; document and communicate results.
• Monitor and control the environment for patient and staff safety.
• Administer and document medications per policy.
• Delegate tasks according to laws and competency of assignees.
• Participate in patient and family teaching; document teaching effectiveness.
• Plan and implement safe patient positioning during surgery.
• Operate sterilization equipment and handle specimens according to policy.
• Participate in Universal Protocol/Time-Out process.
• Manage inventory and supply usage accurately.
• Follow safety protocols with high-risk equipment (electrosurgical units, lasers, etc.).
• Provide first assistant duties including use of instruments, tissue handling, hemostasis, and suturing.
• Foster a collaborative perioperative environment.

Requirements

Education & Certification

• Successful completion of an RNFA program meeting AORN standards and accepted by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI).
• Current RN license in Texas or compact state.
• BLS Certification (AHA).
• ACLS Certification (AHA).
• CNOR Perioperative Nursing Certificate.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including scrubbing and circulating.
• CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) and EVH (Endoscopic Vein Harvesting) experience required.
• Comfortable performing circulating, scrubbing, and first assist roles.

Work Schedule

• Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
• Full-time travel assignment

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

• Credentialing process required before starting; may take up to 90 days to complete.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
