Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Salina, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Weekends: Every other weekend required
  • License: Kansas or Compact License required at time of submission
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years required
  • EMR System: Meditech experience required
  • Floating: Will float to 4 Med unit; may float from ED depending on needs

Unit Information

Primary Unit (Med/Surg)

  • Ratio: 1:6
  • 40-bed unit
  • Patient types: All surgical patients except cardiac (Ortho, Neuro, trauma, general surgery, Urology), pre/post-op patients, general pediatrics

Float Unit (4 Med)

  • Ratio: 1:6
  • 40-bed unit
  • Patient types: Nephrology, oncology, general medical, dialysis unit

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or equivalent
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for certain units
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as required
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – as required
  • CHEMO certification – required for oncology RNs
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – required for Labor & Delivery RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification – required annually for all RNs except select units

Skills & Competencies

  • Use of Rapid Response/Code Teams
  • Endocrine/Metabolic care
  • Gastrointestinal care
  • Genitourinary/Renal care
  • IV therapy/Phlebotomy (starting IVs, etc.)
  • Medication administration (Heparin, Insulin, PCA)
  • Neurological/Psychiatric care (Pre/Post Neuro Surgery)
  • Orthopedics (Ortho Trauma, Total Joint Replacements)
  • Plastics (Surgical drains)
  • Respiratory care (Chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, Oral Suctioning)
  • Isolation Precautions
  • Wound Care/Wound Vac

Dress Code

  • Unit scrub color: Navy Blue

Facility Requirements

  • Must comply with 100-mile radius rule (mileage reviewed case-by-case)
  • Prior employees of this facility will not be considered

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of I9 or Attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (carried during hours of service)
  • Proof of E-Verify or Attestation
  • Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually) including SS Trace, Counties, Nationwide, Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated every contract renewal)
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma (proof of highest degree)
  • FACIS Level III screening within 30 days of start
  • State license primary source verification
  • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Physical exam within 30 days of start stating ability to perform essential job functions
  • N95 Fit Test within 12 months (can be completed onsite during orientation)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (current within 10 years, required for Birth Center/NICU)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2-dose vaccine series)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination form)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccine series)
  • Drug screening:
    • 9-panel or 10-panel drug screen (SAMHSA certified, reviewed by MRO) within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or medical/religious exemption (declination accepted)

References & History

  • Two professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • Performance evaluations required if worked over 1 year with the agency
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
  • Employment application/resume required

Additional Notes

  • Healthstream modules required for all candidates; approximately 8 hours to complete and must be finished prior to start
  • Facility requires photo for badge issuance

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with Meditech EMR experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical and medical environment with a variety of patient populations. The role requires flexibility to float between units and strong clinical skills across multiple specialties.
