Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ambulatory OR RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Ambulatory Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Shift Options:
- 3 shifts of 12 hours (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
- 4 shifts of 10 hours (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
- One late week per 4 weeks to complete cases
- Weekend Requirement: No weekends required
- On-call: No
- Floating: Possible floating within Perioperative facility, within scope
- Block Schedule: At manager's discretion
- Number of ORs: 9
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Certifications Required:
- NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Radiation badge (must be provided by parent company)
- Preferred Experience: Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, ENT, GYN, GU, Endocrine, Surgical Oncology
- First-timers: Not accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted within 60 miles radius
- Guaranteed Hours: Traveler may be called off up to 10 hours per 2-week period
- Precepting: May be required to precept a care team member in the OR
- Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form and attestation confirming US work eligibility
- Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card (or SSN confirmation)
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if pending
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers; attestation letters accepted if verification not possible
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units
Certifications Requirements
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA only; required for specific units including Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology (RNs only), PACU, PCU, PreOp, Observation Unit
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only; required for all clinical staff
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for all Pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR; not required for Adult ER
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AHA/AAP only; full eCard with QR code required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): AWHONN or NCC accepted
- Tech Certification: Required for Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Sterile Processing Techs, Ultrasound Techs, Pathology Assistants, MLTs (ASCP or equivalent)
- IV Certification: Required for select LPNs with documented training
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and as applicable
- Radiation Badge: Required for CVOR RN/Techs, OR, Pediatric OR, Radiation Oncology, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Echo Techs (adult), and other Radiology/Cardiology travelers; must be obtained prior to starting clinical work
Licensure
- State License: South Carolina RN license required (primary source verification)
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- Temporary Licensure: Walk-through (temporary) process available for SC RN license with faster turnaround (24-48 business hours) if no background issues
- License Hits: All licensure issues must be approved by facility
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually; specific mask models required
- Vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- CBC and Biochem Panel: Required for Sterile Processing Techs only
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours; completed on computer (not phone)
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire; no sunglasses or hats; must be submitted by Wednesday before start
- Radiation Badge Process: Must be obtained before starting clinical work; may take 5-7 days to process
- Emergency Response: Travelers may be assigned to emergency teams during hurricane season (June-November)
Additional Notes
- All required documents and certifications must be current and valid at the time of start; certificates expiring within 30 days of start are not accepted unless renewal is scheduled
- Travelers must upload vaccination and certification documents into the facility’s system as instructed
- Local travel radius is 60 miles; first-time travelers are not accepted for this position
