Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Valdosta, Georgia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Float)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: Med/Surg Float Pool (floats to ER holding, Postpartum, Step Down units as needed)
- Patient Age Group: Adults
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year Med/Surg experience; first-time travelers are welcome
- Shift Options: 3, 12-hour or 4, 12-hour shifts available
- Ratios:
- Days: 1:5-6
- Nights: 1:6
- Patient Diagnoses: General Med/Surg including post-stroke, medical, post-surgery, ortho, neuro, general surgery
- Schedule:
- Strict every other weekend schedule unless working every weekend
- No guaranteed block scheduling unless working every weekend
- Medication System: Omnicell
- Documentation System: EPIC
Required Certifications & Skills
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended (AHA or American Red Cross)
- Preferred Skills:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Phlebotomy
Work Hours & Called Off Policy
- Called Off Rules:
- 8-hour shifts: up to 8 hours per 2 weeks
- 10-hour shifts: up to 10 hours per 2 weeks
- 12-hour shifts: up to 12 hours per 2 weeks
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 8 or 10-hour shifts: 40 hours per week
- 3 shifts of 12 hours = 36 hours
- 4 shifts of 12 hours = 48 hours
Facility & Orientation Requirements
- EPIC Testing: Required on day 1
- Scrub Colors:
- Emergency Department: Royal Blue
- Women & Children (L&D, Postpartum, Pediatrics, NICU): Pink and/or White
- Med/Surg, Critical Care, Rehab: Ceil Blue
- RRTs: Hunter Green
- Photo: Passport-style photo with white background required for badge
- Pass/Fail Testing:
- Medication exam (all RNs and LPNs including Case Managers)
- EKG exam (for Med/Surg, ER, ICU, Step Down, Dialysis, etc.)
- Critical Care exam (for ICU units except NICU, Tele, Step Down)
- Competency Check-Off: Required prior to start
- Net Learning Modules: Must be completed before start date
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required or approved exemption prior to start
- Mask Fit Testing: Completed at orientation
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, renewed yearly
- Immunizations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (facility-specific declination accepted)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed series, or signed declination
- TB Testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; chest x-ray if previously positive
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes THC)
- Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (Sept 22 - Mar 31) with no declinations accepted
- Background Check: Within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search
- Fingerprinting: Not required for RNs
Additional Notes
- Must be able to float within Med/Surg units and take patients within scope of practice
- Experienced Med/Surg RNs preferred due to diverse patient population
- Local candidates preferred to reside 50 miles or more from participating hospitals
This position offers a dynamic Med/Surg float role with opportunities to work across multiple units in a hospital setting using EPIC and Omnicell systems. Ideal for nurses with solid Med/Surg experience looking for a travel contract in Georgia.
