Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Melbourne, Florida

Job Requirements & Details

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year required
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period (unit dependent)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Float Requirement: Yes, may float to other units or locations within the system
  • Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
  • Licensure: Florida State or compact license required at time of submission; pending licenses not accepted
  • Locals: Accepted at same rate as travelers
  • Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours guaranteed

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor or Provider only, RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor or Provider only, RQI accepted
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Must be renewed annually
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM for Labor & Delivery)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (10/31–3/31), with medical or religious exemptions only

Special Requirements

  • Two professional references from authority figures (Manager, Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or Director) within the last 12 months
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (10/31–3/31); medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Background checks and verifications as per facility policy (including MVR, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting mandatory if no prior clearance)

Health & Compliance Documents

  • Physical exam within 6 months prior to start (required by Florida law for all patient-facing candidates)
  • Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (strict shaving policy; PAPR not accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (QGold or 2 negative PPDs accepted)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Titers required within 5 years for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (must include marijuana; witnessed urine collection required for instant tests)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved declination/exemption documentation required during flu season (10/1–3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but recommended if available for client visibility

Additional Notes

  • Auto insurance required for Home Health assignments
  • Facility-specific documents must be completed prior to start (e.g., Job Description Acknowledgement, Confidentiality Agreement, Badge Form)
  • Background checks must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years and be updated annually
  • Education verification required; candidates from certain institutions are not accepted (facility-specific list applies)

This position requires a reliable, experienced RN with current Florida licensure and certifications, able to work flexible schedules including weekends and float assignments within the healthcare system. Compliance with all health, background, and facility-specific requirements is mandatory.
