Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Melbourne, Florida
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years required
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • EPIC experience: Required
  • Ratios: 1:5 patient to nurse ratio
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period (unit dependent)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Float: Required; may float to other units or locations within the system
  • Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed

Licensure & Certifications

  • License: Florida State or compact license required at time of submission (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI accepted)
    • BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI accepted)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (must be renewed annually)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM for Labor & Delivery)

Special Requirements

  • 2 professional references from managers, supervisors, charge nurses, or directors within the last 12 months
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (10/31 - 3/31); medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Must comply with facility-specific immunization and health requirements

Background & Compliance Checks

  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 90 days of start
  • Monthly HHS/OIG checks
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting mandatory if no prior clearance)
  • Education verification required; certain institutions are not accepted (facility-specific list applies)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 6 months prior to start (valid for 5 years once on file)
  • Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (strict shaving policy, specific mask types required)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 3 months of start (valid for 5 years)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Titers required within 5 years for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (must include marijuana; witnessed urine collection required for instant tests)
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption documentation required during flu season

Additional Facility-Specific Documents

  • Personal or auto insurance (required for Home Health)
  • Radiation badge monitoring form (for Radiology, Cath Lab, OR, Pain Clinic staff)
  • Facility-specific forms including job description acknowledgment, confidentiality agreement, values, and badge form
  • Health First attestation letter completed by coordinator

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Contracted hours guaranteed
  • Locals accepted at same rate as travelers
  • Floating to other units or locations within the hospital system expected

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with EPIC experience who meet Florida licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable with floating and weekend shifts. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and health screenings is mandatory.
