Job Description

  • First Time Travelers Accepted
  • Call Requirement: On call every 3rd or 4th weekend starting Friday 5:30 PM through Monday 7:00 AM
  • Skillset Required:
    • Proficient in both peripheral vascular Interventional Radiology (IR) and neurovascular IR
    • Minimum 2 years of experience
    • Ability to scrub both peripheral and neuro cases including:
      • Stents, Angioplasty, Angiograms, Nephrogram, Peripherals, Drainages
      • Upper and Lower Extremity, Abdomen and Pelvic, Vascular Studies
      • Venous Access, Neurological Studies
  • Call-In Policy:
    • If a traveler calls in for a contracted shift, they must make up the day during the pay period if 0.9 FTE
    • If unable to make up during the pay period (0.9 FTE), the shift will be added at the end of the contract
    • For 1.2 FTE, any call-in shifts will be added to the end of the contract

Department Details

  • 4 IR rooms with 2 single plane and 2 biplane Siemens C-arms
  • Two IR techs per room: one circulates, one scrubs
  • Services include Level 1 trauma, pulmonary embolism (PE), stroke, vascular and neuro interventional procedures such as:
    • Angiograms, embolizations, nephrostomy, IVC filter placement
    • PE thrombectomy, intracranial thrombectomy, stent placements, central line insertions

Certification Requirements

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on cost center
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit or role (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in IR tech role

Required Documents and Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background Check within 90 days of start including:
    • 7 years of lived/worked history
    • SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification
    • International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma (official copy showing degree and graduation date)
  • Education Verification by 3rd party
  • State License verification within 30 days of start (primary source)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, minimum 100%)
  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months of start (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and Health Documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
    • Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
  • Employment Application: Current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklist: Completed within 12 months and updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Mandatory completion of facility-specific orientation modules and compliance forms prior to start
  • On-site Fit Testing available only as a last resort with limitations
  • PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) available on-site but requires prior facility approval except at Methodist and University campuses where it is automatically approved
  • Call and shift make-up policies strictly enforced to maintain contract compliance
