Job Details

  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years, must have cardiology experience
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Licensure: North Carolina or Compact license required and must be in hand
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
    • Epic experience required
  • Scrub Color: Any color allowed
  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • On-Call Requirement: No
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly
  • Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
  • First-Timer: Yes, first-time travelers are accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Must be completed within 90 days of start
  • Includes SSN trace, counties lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, alias searches, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), education verification for certain specialties
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days
  • OFAC Sanctions List Search required within 30 days of start

Certifications & Verifications

  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO certifications as applicable (AHA/AAP only)
  • Tech certification verification required where applicable (e.g., ARRT for CT Tech, MRI Tech, X-Ray Tech; NBRC for RRT; ARDMS or CCI for Sonographers)
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for all except RRTs, typically done at orientation
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)

Health Documents

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start (latex allergy acceptable)
  • Fit mask (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months for Radiology/Cardiology professions
  • Immunizations required with no exemptions:
    • Flu seasonal vaccination (mandatory for new candidates during flu season Oct-Mar)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers required)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific documentation if history of positive PPD)
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
  • Competency checklist (CBO) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
  • Online orientation modules must be completed prior to orientation
  • First Day Instructions (FDI) provided before orientation week
  • References: 2 professional references required from employment within last 12 months, at least one supervisor
  • Employment application and skills checklist required and must be updated annually

This is a travel/contract RN position in ambulatory cardiology requiring at least 2 years of cardiology experience, NC or compact RN license, BLS certification, and Epic experience. The role involves adult and geriatric patient care with a 1:5 ratio, no weekend or on-call requirements, and bi-weekly orientation.
