Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Unit: 2E Overflow
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts or 4x12 hour shifts
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- License: Must have Indiana RN license, compact license, or temporary license at time of start
- Locals not accepted
- Pending license accepted if IN license/compact/temp license is in hand at start
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training and resources (only submit if willing)
- Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers are exempt from Indiana RN restriction effective 11/30/2024
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Check within 90 days, including:
- 7 years residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification (new travelers only)
- International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Official Transcript or Diploma (may be pending at start)
- Education Verification by 3rd party (may be pending at start)
- State License Verification online within 30 days before start
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment verified within 2 years, must be from charge/manager/supervisor or above
- Employment Application current with explanation of any gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist within 12 months, updated annually
Certifications (AHA or equivalent, RQI acceptable where noted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - required for all candidates
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (per unit requirements)
- Tech Certification (as applicable, within 30 days of start)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended, preferred)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year of start
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted)
- Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent)
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements prior to start
- Completion of orientation packets and tests as required
- Proof of valid auto insurance required for Hospice specialty travelers
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024 except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
- Charge nurse duties may be assigned based on operational needs with provided training
- Must be willing to work required holidays
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with required certifications and licensure who are comfortable with potential charge nurse responsibilities and holiday shifts.
