Description

Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ER) with Pediatric focus
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Fast-paced Emergency Room with a strong pediatric (PEDS) presence
  • Experience with pediatric population highly preferred
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • Epic electronic health record experience required
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • No call requirement
  • Floating expectations: May float to ICU and ED for helping hands and patient sitting
  • Team nursing approach; will not take patients outside clinical assignment or team

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider only
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA provider only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Skills:
    • General Emergency Department care (Adult and Pediatric)
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Triage
  • Preferred: Pediatric experience

Patient Diagnoses

Caring for a wide range of conditions across all ages, including but not limited to:

  • Minor cuts and scrapes
  • Fractures
  • Abdominal pain
  • Chest pain
  • Respiratory concerns
  • Oncological, neurological, trauma, psychiatric emergencies
  • Abuse/assault/neglect evaluations
  • Substance use disorder
  • GI/GU/OB issues
  • Sepsis

Special Procedures & Unit Details

  • Conscious sedation
  • Trauma alert/activation
  • Stroke alert
  • Cath lab activation
  • SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) consultation

Equipment & Systems

  • Point of Care Ultrasound (US/USGPIV)
  • EPOC
  • Belmont
  • Ranger
  • Teleneurology
  • Medication and documentation systems: Omnicell, Epic, SBAR, Voalte

Orientation & Uniform

  • Orientation: 36 hours to 1 week (classroom and clinical time)
  • Scrubs: Any color

Unit Census & Capacity

  • Average daily census: 70 patients
  • Visits per day: 160
  • Rooms: 36
  • Beds: 50

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
    • Social Security verification
    • National sex offender registry
    • National and state criminal searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police search required)
    • Education verification
    • Motor vehicle background check (if applicable)
  • Drug screen: 10-panel within 14 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with 2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or waiver
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (required October 31 – April 1; exemptions allowed with documentation)
  • Fit mask test annually (N95 or equivalent)
  • Respiratory safety clearance questionnaire required
  • Pass/fail dysrhythmia (EKG) testing required for awareness and compliance
  • References: Two professional references within last 3 years, including one supervisor
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Travelers who have previously worked for the associated health system are not eligible
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines require specific waiver forms and approval
  • Candidate must complete SSA release and state-specific background authorizations
  • Floating to ICU and ED may be required for helping hands and patient sitting
  • No patient assignments outside of clinical team

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with pediatric skills, Epic proficiency, and a commitment to working night shifts in a dynamic emergency department setting.
