Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: May float to other MedSurg units as needed
  • Charting System: EPIC (preferred)
  • Certifications Required:
    • Chemotherapy certification (Chemo cert required)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 12 weeks

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC only
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy): Must be through ONS for Oncology units
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA or ARC only (check unit requirements)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for NICU
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required for Labor & Delivery RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER RNs
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required within 12 months of start, must score 85%
  • Color Blind Testing: Required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80% or higher
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU units (except Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually) including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation for internationally educated RNs
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start (CT license must be applied for within 72 hours if not already held)
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure for certain tech and specialty roles

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (various accepted tests)
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination preferred for Pediatric, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Facility-Specific Training & Documents

Candidates must complete and attest to the following training modules (attestations can be sent electronically):

  • Stroke Education (not required for some campuses)
  • CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric
  • Preventing Pressure Injury
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules (not required for some campuses)
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for most clinical roles except some techs and home health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)
  • EPIC Testing (for RNs with EPIC experience who want to test out of orientation training)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption (if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Floating to other MedSurg units may be required.
  • EPIC experience is preferred but not mandatory; onsite training provided if needed.
  • Free parking available.
  • Facility is part of a large health system with multiple campuses.

This position is ideal for RNs with chemotherapy certification looking for a travel contract in a Level II trauma acute care hospital setting with a 12-week commitment.
