Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Work Schedule

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Must pass Telemetry test
  • Experience monitoring telemetry patients preferred
  • BLS and IV certification required
  • EPIC experience required
  • General nursing skills including IV starts, monitoring, labs, medication administration, and patient education
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for certain units; can be renewed onsite
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Certification expiration handled differently; check unit requirements
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required for all RN/LVN candidates prior to start
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required annually for all RNs (with some unit exceptions); minimum passing score 76% with remediation process if failed
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Required annually
  • State License Verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification for RNs required

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Background checks monitored monthly (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Education accreditation verification required for nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Transcript/Diploma verification required
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption allowed with documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership
  • Employment application required including education details
  • Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must provide proof of fingerprinting completion (in-state or out-of-state instructions apply)
  • Fingerprinting results must be obtained within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
  • Candidates must review and sign ethics and compliance policies annually
  • Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity is required

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry skills, EPIC proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
