Job Description
- Position in PCU Float Pool, Days shift
- Float to any Stepdown/PCU area; potential to float to other campuses (Ross Heart, Brain & Spine, Dodd)
- May float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Estimated patient ratios: 1:3-4
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Required skills: IV start, Telemetry
- EPIC experience required
- Certifications required: BLS and ACLS
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Follow facility-specific expiration rules
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RN/LVN candidates prior to start
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam: Required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
- State License Verification: Required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- IV start and telemetry skills required
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
Patient Care & Float Requirements
- Float pool position with potential to float to multiple units and campuses
- Patient ratios approximately 1:3-4
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
- Transcript or diploma verification required
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Facility-specific dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12) required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions reviewed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Documentation & History
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership)
- Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
- Facility may require annual renewal of certain certifications and background checks
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
