Registered Nurse - Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Unit Overview
- Unit: 19 James Med Surg Oncology
- Shift: 12-hour Day/Night
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Patient care focus:
- Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
- Soft tissue malignancy patients receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, symptom management
- Symptom management secondary to disease or treatment progression
- Management of comorbidities
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
Equipment Used
- B450 monitors, GE telemetry system
- Bladder Scanner
- Alaris pumps
- Stryker beds
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- BCLS certification required
- Patient ratio: 1:4
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Previous travel experience preferred
- EPIC experience required
Skills Required
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line care/management
- PICC line management
- IV start
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of ABGs
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor or RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - check unit requirements
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for ER/OB/ER Psych units only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for L&D, Post-Partum, OB units
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - facility-specific expiration rules
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including FBI/BCI fingerprinting)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program)
- Transcript/diploma verification required
- Fingerprinting (Ohio BCI & FBI) required within 1 year of start; must use specific fingerprinting code
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Annual background check required by Aya Healthcare
- Facility-specific dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declined
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
