Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details

  • Shifts: 36 or 48 hours
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Emergency Department with approximately 60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms are "ED Holding"
  • Level 1 trauma experience preferred
  • Floating:
    • Optional to Pediatric ED
    • Expected to float to Adult PCUs based on staffing needs
    • Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE)
  • Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday-Sunday nights)
  • No on-call required
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • No local candidates accepted within 75 miles
  • Pending New Mexico license accepted at time of submission
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: >7 days off requires approval
  • Guaranteed contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off 3 times during a 13-week assignment
  • Overtime applies after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required; 1.5 years may be considered
  • Travel experience strongly preferred; however, candidates with 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience may be considered without travel experience
  • Must have Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification before submission
  • NIH Stroke Certification can be pending until compliance due date before start
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form signed by a provider

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (any vendor acceptable)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ENPC, CPI, MOAB for Behavioral Health)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
  • Education verification or diploma/transcript required
  • Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Annual flu vaccination required (exceptions allowed with facility form)
  • COVID vaccination documentation or declination required (though no longer mandated by facility)
  • Social Security card copy may be requested
  • Work history verification for 3 years required
  • Two professional references within 3 years of hire
  • Skills checklist required
  • Medication and dysrhythmia competency exams required (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam)
  • Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test out option available)

Additional Notes

  • No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
  • Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
  • Candidates must complete a traveler compliance form and review facility-specific orientation materials prior to start
  • Candidates may be required to complete pass/fail testing for EKG and medication competency with two attempts allowed before cancellation
  • MOAB certification required for Behavioral Health units; can be obtained onsite if not held prior to start
  • Facility requires acknowledgment of safety manuals and compliance forms

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with Level 1 trauma experience who are comfortable with floating to various units and working weekend shifts in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital setting.
