Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Portland, Indiana

Position Details

  • Shift:
    • Regular: 20:00 - 06:00, 4 days a week (4x10s)
    • Scheduled every other weekend
    • Weekend shift times: 17:30 - 06:00
  • Required National Certification: ASCP - MLS or MT
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Required Experience: Strong experience with Cerner, Beckman, ACL TOPS, and Blood Bank

Required Credentials & Certifications

  • Certifications:
    • ASCP - MLS or MT (mandatory)
    • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
    • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
    • PALS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
    • NRP (AHA only)
    • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
    • TNCC (if applicable)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (if applicable)
    • State License verification (must be current and verified online within 30 days before start)
    • National Tech Certification (as applicable, must be run within 30 days of start)
    • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background Check within 90 days of start, including:
    • 7 years of residence/work history verification
    • SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification (highest applicable education)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
    • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma (official and clear copy)
  • Education Verification by 3rd party (may be pending at start)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam completed within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations or history accepted)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent, minimum 100% score)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
  • Unit Competency Exam
  • Color Blind Testing

Documentation & Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific forms and packets prior to start (time sensitive)
  • Compliance with IU Health Look of Assurance and Confidentiality Agreements
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment within 2 years, must be from charge/manager/supervisor or above
  • Employment Application: Current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills Checklist: Completed within 12 months and updated annually
  • TB Questionnaire: Required and must be updated annually

This position requires strong technical skills in laboratory systems and blood bank procedures, adherence to strict certification and health requirements, and the ability to work night shifts with weekend rotations. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
