Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Dunn, North Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, Behavioral Health


Job Details

  • Facility Type: Short-term acute care hospital
  • Shift Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Medical-Surgical or Telemetry
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Required within scope; must be comfortable floating between two nearby units
  • Block Scheduling: Not available
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule applies)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Work Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be off for 6 months before returning
  • Guaranteed Hours: After 2 call-off shifts in a 13-week assignment, all contracted hours are guaranteed
  • Scrub Color: Royal blue and white
  • Charting System: Epic

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or Military only, legal name documentation required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for specific units including ED, ICUs, EMS, Step Down, etc.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ED, OR, PACU, PICU, and some ICU and PACU units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, FCCU, NICU
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Must be updated annually for ED, Psych ED, ICUs, Step Down, Med Surg, L&D, Express Care
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for many units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with remediation required after failures
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must be completed annually via Relias; required for various units depending on level (Basic or Advanced)

Background and Health Requirements

  • Background Check: Required within 6 months of start; includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide and sex offender searches, and international search if applicable
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcript acceptable if verification unavailable
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years, no declinations accepted)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted)
  • TB Screening: Required annually regardless of results; includes negative TB test or chest x-ray as appropriate
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (specific substances listed)
  • Flu Vaccination: Required year-round; medical or religious exemptions accepted with facility-specific documentation; must be updated annually
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but accepted if available

  • Various job descriptions depending on role (e.g., RT, Surgical Tech, Cath Lab Tech, etc.)
  • COVID-19 Religious and Medical Exemption Forms (if applicable)
  • Latex Form (specific to certain units)

Note: Modules related to orientation must be completed by the Monday prior to start date.


Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be comfortable floating between units within the hospital system.
  • Locals within a 50-mile radius of the facility are not accepted for this travel position.
  • Return staff must have been off assignment for at least 1 year.
  • The system limits travelers to two contracts with only one extension allowed before requiring a 6-month break.
  • Background checks and health documents must be current and compliant with facility policies.
  • Flu vaccine is mandatory year-round with strict exemption policies.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical or Telemetry who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who meet the certification and health requirements outlined above.
