Description

Job Opportunity: Cardiovascular OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Rochester, New York
Specialty: Surgical Services
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: January 20, 2026
Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Travel Distance: Must be more than 75 miles from home (no locals accepted)
First Time Travelers: Accepted
On-Call/Weekend: 1 call per week and one weekend per month


Facility Overview

  • 23 Operating Rooms and 1 procedure room
  • Elective and emergency surgeries for adults and pediatric patients
  • Variety of service-specific specialties

Required Credentials & Certifications

  • Government Issued Photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
    • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees)
    • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI)
    • BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI)
    • PALS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI)
    • NRP, TNCC, EFM as required by unit
    • National Tech Certification verification within 30 days of start (if applicable)
    • State License primary source verification within 30 days of start
    • NURSYS verification for RN, LPN/LVN, AP within 30 days of start
    • NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)
  • Competencies:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required
    • Color Blind Testing (one-time)
    • Competency exam as required by specialty
  • Orientation: Safety manual acknowledgement required

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific acceptable mask types)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (if booked within 30 days)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (deadline December 3)
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start (not annual)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Documentation & History

  • References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates)
  • Employment application required
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Work history verification: at least 2 past employments verified (details required)

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start
  • Fingerprint-based criminal background check for certain units (Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, LTC)
  • Disciplinary action search for certain units
  • Sex Offender Registry check within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start, updated monthly

Additional Notes

  • Candidate will receive facility-specific modules to complete prior to start (approx. 4-6 hours)
  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
  • Facility requires compliance with all pre-employment and ongoing credentialing standards

This position offers a dynamic surgical environment with a mix of adult and pediatric cases, requiring strong technical skills and compliance with rigorous credentialing and health standards.
