MedSurg 5S - RN Float Position

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Seeking experienced RNs for Float positions covering Ortho units. Ideal candidates have MedSurg/Telemetry experience and some low-level Ortho experience.

Requirements

• Current WV or compact nursing license
• EPIC experience required
• BLS certification
• Must submit a copy of an unexpired driver's license (50 mile radius rule)

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit: MedSurg 5S
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:5-6 (days and nights), occasionally up to 7 patients toward shift end depending on acuity
• Common Diagnoses: CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, Ortho, Oncology (permanent staff administer chemo)
• Floating to Critical Care involves med/surg or stepdown patients

Work Environment & Support

• EMR: EPIC
• Charge Nurse: Present on every unit; day charge nurse does not take patients, night charge nurse does
• Nurse Aides: CNAs used on all units
• Telemetry: Phillips monitors; RNs must interpret strips
• Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7; manages CPAP, BiPAP, vents; RNs perform aerosols for non-vented patients and EKGs
• IV Team: Available house-wide until 10 pm weekdays and 3:30 pm weekends
• Pharmacy: In-house 24/7 with Accudose system

Schedule & Orientation

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7 am - 7 pm; 7 pm - 7 am)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• Holidays: Work scheduled on a rotating basis with permanent staff
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor on the floor

• Manager is traveler-friendly and open to requests to primarily work on 6N with efforts to block schedule
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
• No false nails allowed
• 12-hour night shifts and weekend work as scheduled
