Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ortho RN) - Springfield, Illinois
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Ortho RN)
- Location: Springfield, Illinois
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: 38 bed unit
- Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 shifts (1845-0645)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Work every third weekend
- On-call: None
- Floating: May float within scope to other Med Surg departments as needed
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- License: Must have an active Illinois nursing license (pending licenses not accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Certifications & Skills
- Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), Telemetry experience, Cerner experience
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy Skills: PICC line management, starting IVs
- Travel Experience: Preferred

Special Requirements & Notes
- Floating to other Med Surg departments may be required.
- Guaranteed hours policy allows client to call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay.
- Telemetry experience preferred.
- Previous travel experience preferred.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification (degree verification required)
- State-specific searches including Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and others within 30 days prior to start
- Primary source verification of certifications and state license
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required before start
- Signed Code of Conduct and other facility-specific documents
- Physical exam within one year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
- Skills checklist required for clinical candidates
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for clinical candidates without an IL license.
- Facility accommodates latex allergies.
- Non-clinical or remote candidates have some exemptions from health and background requirements.
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with orthopedic and telemetry skills who are licensed in Illinois and comfortable working night shifts in a Level I trauma, Magnet hospital setting.
