Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Facility: Level 2 Trauma Center (Jersey City Medical Center)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Must be able to Circulate and Scrub in the OR
  • Call 2 times per schedule
  • Requires 2 years of current acute care OR experience
  • Experience required in:
    • Robotic and ENT
    • Orthopedic, vascular, general, thoracic, neuro surgeries
  • Patient mix includes all OR specialties except Open Heart
  • Charting system used: EPIC
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Scrubs provided

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for RN Manager, ED, Adult Critical Care, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D; preferred for Behavioral Health
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, Pediatrics
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – Required as applicable (ONS/ONCC for adults, APHON for pediatrics)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Beginner and Intermediate levels required for Mother-Baby and L&D RNs
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – Required for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person training)
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Required for Adult Critical Care, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and Stroke Center units
  • Other certifications as applicable based on unit and role

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Employment Application/Resume with 7 years of work history
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years (one managerial)
  • Skills Checklist: Scrub and Circulate skills checklist required
  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • State License Verification: Must match legal name; NURSYS verification as applicable
  • Drug Screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Physical Exam: Within 12 months, must clear candidate for essential job functions and communicable disease free
  • TB Testing: Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility requirements
  • Flu Vaccination or Exemption: Required annually during flu season
  • Fit Test & Respiratory Clearance: Required prior to start for respirator use
  • Color Blind Exam: Required if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Competency Exams: Medication test, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and other competency exams required within 72 hours of signing
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG exams with remediation policy
  • CEUs: Required for certain specialties (e.g., Med Surg, Stroke, Trauma) with specified expiration periods

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Must complete Floating Policy for every new assignment or site transfer
  • Must sign Job Description prior to start for assigned unit
  • Must complete Annual Education Sign Off and review related PowerPoint presentations
  • Required to complete Vendor Medical Clearance Form if history of positive TB
  • Must complete RWJBH - CDS Attestation and medication storage/distribution procedure sign-offs
  • Required to complete Iron Temple Online Training for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs
  • Must comply with Latex Allergy Screening Questionnaire if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Candidates switching between RWJBarnabas Health sites within 30 days may reuse initial documentation if still valid
  • Certificates expiring within a month of start require renewal confirmation
  • Candidates with name changes must provide proof and include all names in background checks
  • First-time travelers are accepted and scrubs are provided
