Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (BMT Oncology RN Coordinator)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Nurse Coordinator
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, either 5 days a week with 8-hour shifts or 4 days a week with 10-hour shifts (likely off Tuesday or Wednesday, to be determined after start)
- Hours: Mon-Thurs or Tues-Fri, 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM
- Focus: Coordinate post-transplant patient care including clinic appointments, testing, and communication between teams
- Patient Diagnoses: Malignant hematology including lymphoma, leukemias, multiple myeloma, post CAR-T therapy, post autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplant
- Responsibilities: Patient and family teaching regarding immunosuppression, follow-up care, infusions, and medications
Required Experience & Skills
- Oncology experience required
- Preferred: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience
- Preferred: Outpatient clinic experience
- Preferred skills: BMT, inpatient oncology, outpatient oncology, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology
- Hematology/oncology experience preferred
Certifications
- Required: BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
- Preferred: OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse), BMTCN (Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- I9 and E-Verify attestation required upon hire
- Valid state license verification required prior to start
- Background checks including criminal history, education verification, and federal/statewide searches within the last 90 days
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana) and updated annually
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunization and health documentation required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap preferred within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer documentation
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher) within 3 years of start
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain specialties (must meet specific scoring and renewal criteria)
- Color blindness testing (online or in-person)
- Skills checklist and work history verification required prior to start and updated annually
Additional Information
- Two positive supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least two years of experience within the last three years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, licenses, and contact information
- Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start
- Photo for badge required with specific guidelines (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)
