Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Job Details

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Rotating weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Floating required to different units within the hospital system as needed
  • Preferred Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), but Medical-Surgical (MS) RN also accepted
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in PCU or Med-Surg
  • Certifications Required: BCLS (Basic Life Support)
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA certification required (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; AHA certification only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required with specific expiration rules
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RN/LVN candidates prior to start
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exam: Required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)

Licensure & Verification

  • State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs, LPN/LVNs, and Advanced Practice providers
  • Residency Declaration Form required if using a compact license from outside Ohio

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Background acknowledgement form required for subcontractors
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and form required
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
  • Proof of fingerprint completion required (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards)
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days or results older than 1 year

Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for floating to various units within the hospital system
  • Compliance with all background, health, and certification requirements is mandatory
  • Some certifications can be renewed onsite if needed
  • Strict adherence to fingerprinting and background check protocols is required due to facility policies
