Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry) - Akron, Ohio

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

Job Requirements

• Minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience prior to travel assignment.
• Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
• Certifications required:

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Use of Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked.

Background Checks & Compliance

• Background check required prior to start; must be updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 48 hours of contract signing; results valid for 12 months and must be updated annually.
• Fingerprints must be completed under nursing-specific code (4723.09).
• Facility will conduct their own fingerprinting in addition to agency process.
• Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if fingerprinting is completed before start.
• Education verification required for all candidates.

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS and ACLS: AHA Instructor or Provider level; RQI acceptable. Must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required for this role.
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for other areas.
• State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts.
• NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
• NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred but not required.
• Annual completion of:

  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) for bedside RNs (except OR)
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam (updated annually)
  • Core Parts I, II, and III (updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later). Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
• Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must use approved N95 masks; PAPRs approved case-by-case.
• Immunizations:

  • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted).
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if titers negative/equivocal.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documented.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31).
• Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
• Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates (see physical exam details).

Documentation & Onboarding

• Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
• Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
• Pass/Fail EKG and medication testing completed onsite during orientation.
• References: 2 professional references from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director). Co-worker references not accepted.
• Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area.
• Annual skills checklist required.

• Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation requirements.
• Candidates with gaps in employment or returning to the facility may have specific re-onboarding or documentation requirements.

• Fingerprinting and background checks are critical and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
