Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Role: Clinical Nurse Specialist covering Medical-Surgical (MS) surgical services
Responsibilities:
- Serve as clinical expert, healthcare provider, educator, collaborator, consultant, leader, and researcher for a specific patient population or specialty area
- Provide consultation to address complex patient care issues
- Offer guidance on prevention and management of patient care practices
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours weekly
Weekend Requirement: Emergency coverage only
Work Environment: May come into contact with COVID-19 patients
Flu Vaccine: Required
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid District of Columbia nursing license in hand
- Minimum 2 years of educator experience
- Education: BSN required
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Certifications Preferred: OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
- EMR Experience: Cerner required
- Clinical Skills Required:
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/TELE)
- Inpatient Acute Care
- Clinical Practice Knowledge by Specialty
- Experience with wound vacs and PACS
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: Criminal background check within 90 days including multi-state searches and education verification
- Drug Screen: Within 90 days of start, excludes marijuana, must include multiple substances
- Physical Exam: Annual physical confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunizations and Health Documentation:
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within the past year (or annual questionnaire if history of latent TB)
- Documentation of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer documentation
- Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
- N95 Fit Test: Within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required within 3 years, minimum 80% score
- Color Blind Testing: Required (online or in-person)
- Med Surg/Telemetry Competency Exam: Required for MedSurg and MS/Tele RNs
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required annually with specific scoring criteria for lethal rhythms; remediation available if needed
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
- Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually
- Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
Notes
- Facility requires annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual
- Completion of facility-specific modules (SITELS) prior to start date
- All employees must comply with facility policies and documentation requirements
