Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: No block scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Return to Office (RTO): Up to 5 days off maximum, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; ICU RNs float between Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, and possibly Medical-Surgical units as needed
- Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation and precepting
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in ICU
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required for ICU and critical care specialties)
- Licensing: Must have an active RN license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
- Locals: Local candidates accepted and preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Identification: Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Background Checks:
- Comprehensive background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- International background check if applicable
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Oct-Apr)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (required within 12 months of start)
- Color blind testing (required within 12 months of start)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (preferred for ER RNs)
- Facility-Specific Forms: Must complete updated HIS forms for RNs and other applicable roles before start
Additional Notes
- Floating is mandatory and may include multiple ICU units and medical-surgical units as needed
- Orientation week is on day shift to facilitate training
- Local candidates preferred to ensure proximity to the facility
- Must comply with all health, background, and competency requirements to start and maintain employment
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs seeking a travel/contract role in a Level 1 Trauma Center with a structured schedule and floating responsibilities across critical care units.
