Job Details

  • Start Date: January 5
  • Shift: Day/Night rotating shifts, 3 shifts of 12 hours each, including weekends
  • Shift Times:
    • 06:45 - 19:15
    • 08:45 - 21:15
    • 10:45 - 23:15
    • 18:45 - 07:15
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, flexibility expected; Sunday night is not considered a weekend shift
  • Cases per Shift: 60-70
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years; Level 1 trauma and Neuro experience required; 3-4 years preferred
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Certifications Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: No
  • Block Scheduling: Not available; must be flexible for unit needs
  • Local Candidates: Accepted

  • Unit: 25-bed Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Specialty Areas: Orthopedics, Spine, Neuro (no Cardiac or Transplant cases)
  • Medication System: Pyxis
  • Facility Type: Magnet, Teaching Hospital, Level 1 Trauma
  • Total Staffed Beds: 500
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrub Color: Provided by facility

Licensing & Compliance

  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Compact License: Candidates must apply for Washington State license and/or complete 6-hour suicide prevention training and submit demographic data through WA Board of Nursing
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 6 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per every 2-week pay period

Required Experience & Skills

  • Circulating skills required
  • Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center required
  • BLS certification required
  • Level 1 trauma and Neuro experience required

Background Checks & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start
  • Must run checks on current and former legal names and known aliases
  • Sex offender search required
  • Education verification required for Med Lab Techs (not applicable here)
  • WA WATCH search required for Washington state
  • Additional background checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG

Certifications (AHA Only)

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Preferred for OR:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC for ER, CCRN for critical care) but not mandatory for this OR role

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (score of 80% in dosage calculations)
  • Color Blind Testing required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (not specified for OR)
  • Other competency exams may apply depending on unit

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (not required by UWMC but needed for Aya)
  • Mask fit test within 12 months (specific mask types required)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; declination allowed with understanding of furlough risk
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination; vaccine series and re-titer requirements apply
  • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines required; declination allowed
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Sept 29 - Mar 31)
  • COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking
  • Drug screening within past 12 months required by Aya (not required by UWMC)

Facility Specific Documents & Requirements

  • Badge photo required (professional quality, waist up, no hats, simple background)
  • Must sign license acknowledgment, equipment safety form, health history form, policies and procedures acknowledgment, job description, security info form, personal data form, code of conduct acknowledgment
  • Annual stroke education required for Neuro ICU and related units (review only, no pre-start submission)
  • Orientation modules and testing required; must be completed before start date
  • References: 2 required (not uploaded, but must be on profile)

Additional Notes

  • The unit is heavy in Orthopedics, Spine, and Neuro cases; no cardiac or transplant cases
  • Flexibility is critical due to rotating shifts and weekend requirements
  • Candidates using compact licenses must complete additional WA state requirements before starting
  • Facility provides scrubs and parking options (parking fees apply)

This position is ideal for RNs with trauma and neuro experience seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma Center with a teaching hospital environment. Flexibility in scheduling and compliance with detailed background, certification, and health requirements are essential.
