Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Facility: Level 1 Trauma Center
Position Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Orientation: First week on day shift (orientation + precepting)
- Float Requirement: Mandatory float within ICU units (Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU) and possibly to Medical-Surgical units as needed
- Return to Office (RTO): Up to 5 days off maximum, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, day before/after holidays, or weekends
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years recent acute care ICU experience
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required for ICU and critical care specialties)
- Locals accepted and preferred (must live within 75 miles of facility)
- Pending licenses are not accepted

- Uses Cerner for charting
- Scrub color: Navy blue (not provided)
- Level 1 Trauma Center
- Located in Chicago, IL
Mandatory Compliance & Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if low titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct-Apr)
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Required competency exams (medication/pharmacology, color blind testing, dysrhythmia/EKG for applicable roles) within 12 months of start
Additional Notes
- Must complete facility-specific forms prior to start (RN HIS Forms and others as applicable)
- Must comply with mandatory float policy across ICU and possibly other units
- No call requirements
- No block scheduling
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with critical care experience seeking a travel/contract role in a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma Center environment with a structured schedule and mandatory float responsibilities.
