Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Abilene, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Preferred start dates: January 5 or January 19
  • Schedule: 6 weekend shifts over a 6-week period
  • May be required to float to similar units
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required; travel experience strongly preferred

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
  • BLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
  • PALS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as applicable
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) as applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification as applicable
  • State Nursing License verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for Telemetry RNs
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing (online Ishihara test)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual update)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check required within 1 year of start; updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (highest level) or transcript/diploma
  • State-specific checks for Texas (DADS Employability Status and Employee Misconduct Registry) within 30 days of start
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing for Telemetry RNs
  • Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., vaccination info, TB and occupational exposure, patient-centered pledge, confidentiality, compliance, background check authorization, traveler ID form, employee handbook)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Fit mask (3M 1860 Regular or 1860S) within 12 months of start; updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required for 2025-26 season (Oct 1, 2025 – Mar 31, 2026); religious or medical exemptions accepted
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen with THC within 10 business days prior to start; facility conducts additional drug screen on arrival (positive results lead to cancellation)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within 3 years of start
  • Resume or employment application required
  • Annual skills checklist update required

Notes

  • Orientation includes mandatory modules (~3-4 hours)
  • Parking available at orientation and for employment with no fee
  • Floating to like units may be required
  • Compliance with all facility-specific policies and acknowledgments is mandatory prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses seeking a 13-week contract in Texas with weekend shift availability and flexibility to float between units.
