Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Telemetry, Neuro experience, and management of drips required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First time travelers accepted)
- Weekend Requirement: Must be flexible and able to work 50% of weekends during the contract
- Floating: Required to float to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) as needed
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with training provided
- Precepting: Must agree to precepting and/or having students shadow during assignment
- Locals: Not accepted (except Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers)
Unit Information
- Patient types include CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors and resections, seizures, TBIs, trauma cases (shootings, stabbings, MVCs, falls), GI surgeries, and large wound care.
- Staffing ratios typically 1:3-4, rarely 1:5 during emergencies.
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Preferred Skills
- Conscious Sedation experience
- Level 1 Trauma experience
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, education verification
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% score required)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Unit competency exam
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers.
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- Multiple mandatory orientation and compliance modules must be completed prior to start.
- HIPAA and confidentiality agreements must be acknowledged.
- Candidates must complete facility-specific forms and orientation packets as required.
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of telemetry/neuro experience who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who are comfortable working in a high-acuity, trauma-informed teaching hospital environment.
