Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech / Pediatrics (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (X-Ray Tech, Pediatrics)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) with holiday rotation
  • Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation, then regular schedule begins
  • On-call: Required; must respond within 1 hour when called. On-call hours Mon-Fri 7 PM - 7 AM, weekends 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM. Call likely on weekends but may occur any day.
  • Floating: May float within pediatric imaging locations on the same campus for critical staffing coverage

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
  • Certifications/Licenses Required:
    • ARRT (R) certification
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • South Carolina state license must be active and in hand prior to start
  • Experience Required:
    • Operating Room (OR) experience
    • C-arm experience (additional training available)
  • Preferred Experience:
    • O-arm experience (training available)
    • Trauma experience preferred but not required
    • Pediatric experience preferred
  • Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency (facility does NOT provide badges)

Facility Highlights

  • Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma center
  • Total staffed beds: 865
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking: Nights and weekends only, one-time $20 parking pass fee
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and completed form)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County and statewide criminal checks (past 7 years)
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal and FACIS 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every 30 days
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
  • Color blind testing required prior to start
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed before orientation
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start

Certifications (Must be current and valid, no expiration within 30 days of start)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for pediatric units
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Not required for pediatric units but may be required for some allied health roles
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As required, not required for ER RNs
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - As required
  • Tech Certification Verification - National certification as applicable (e.g., ASCP for MLTs)
  • State License Verification - Primary source verification required; SC RN license must be active and unencumbered
  • NURSYS verification for RNs and LPNs/LVNs as applicable
  • IV Therapy certification for select LPNs if required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or documented positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
  • Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
  • COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • Respiratory safety clearance and fit testing required; PAPR not provided by facility

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badge process is critical; candidates cannot start without it, and it may take 5-7 days to receive
  • Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates accepted at a reduced rate
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application and approved based on facility needs
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Travelers must complete all required modules and documentation prior to orientation or risk being sent home
  • Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)

This position is suitable for first-time travelers with at least 1 year of experience in radiology/pediatric X-ray tech roles and required certifications. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
