Job Summary: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a high acuity and high pace environment (3-5 years required, with preference for 5 years of high-risk experience).
  • Must have high-risk experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D).
  • No first-time travelers accepted.
  • Must have current supervisory references and proof of required certifications.
  • Prior travel experience is required (unit does not accept first-time travelers).

Job Details

  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed; pre-approved time off is case-by-case.
  • Float required between Postpartum and Antepartum units; may float to sister facilities that handle Mother/Baby care.
  • Patient diagnoses include midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
  • Average daily census: 15 patients; 500-600 deliveries per month.
  • Unit size: 31 rooms/beds.
  • Schedule posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.

Unit & Clinical Requirements

  • High Risk/High Volume L&D with 4 Operating Rooms (ORs).
  • Must function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum (hard stop requirement).
  • Must be able to circulate in OR (hard stop requirement).
  • Newborn care includes eyes, thighs, assessments, and Vitamin K injections (hard stop requirement).
  • Experience with Heparin, Insulin, Magnesium Sulfate administration.
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
  • Use of EPIC electronic health record system and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM).

Certifications Required

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications
  • Must have current NURSYS verification.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Must pass clinical review with proof of current NURSYS.
  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
  • Drug screen: 10-panel within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator fit testing required for travel starts on or after 2/5/2024; updated annually.
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete Providence-specific WorkRamp training modules prior to start, including:
    • Core modules for profession
    • Specialty-specific modules for L&D and high-risk nursing roles
    • Annual regulatory modules
  • Must complete EPIC training modules within orientation week.
  • Must acknowledge and comply with Providence float policy (may float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance).

Summary

This is a travel contract Registered Nurse position in a high-acuity, high-risk Labor & Delivery unit in Seattle, WA. Candidates must have 3-5 years of relevant experience with a strong preference for 5 years, prior travel experience, and required certifications including BLS and NRP. The role requires flexibility to float between postpartum and antepartum units and to other mother/baby facilities. Compliance with Providence’s extensive documentation, background checks, immunizations, and training modules is mandatory.
