Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Targeted patient ratios: 1:4 (can be up to 1:5-6)
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hours per week
- Overtime paid after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts
- Must have EPIC experience
- Must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting
- Experience with stable chronic ventilators required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Certification (IV Start preferred)
- Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience; some level 1 or 2 experience preferred
- Prior travel experience preferred (not strictly required)
Floating and Scheduling
- Traveler will be first to float at Premier's discretion within specialty clusters
- Floating may include main campus and nearby campuses within 15 miles
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census
- Employer may cancel contract with 2 weeks' notice without fee or fine
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
Required Certifications and Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, required for all RNs except L&D
- NIH Stroke Certification - required within 12 months prior to start, updated annually (exceptions apply)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - must pass within 1 year or within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts max)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - within 2 years of start
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)
Licensure and Verification
- Ohio nursing license required (primary source verification)
- NURSYS verification required
- Skills checklist required within 1 year prior to documentation due date and updated annually
- Current resume/application required
- 2 professional references required (1 must be Manager/Supervisor/Charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
- 1-year work history verification required only if references are not available
Background and Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to documentation due date
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Fingerprinting required only for select units (NICU, Pediatrics, Home Care, Hospice, Pharmacy Techs, Pain Management Clinics)
- Physical exam within 2 years of start, indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray required; annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB
- Required vaccinations or immunity documentation: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date; must include marijuana panel
- Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start and renewed annually
Additional Requirements
- Must pass online EKG tele competency assessment before starting
- Must complete medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation
- Must submit required accounting and facility-specific documents (I9, government-issued photo ID, E-Verify, residency declaration if using compact license, candidate agreement, annual health questionnaire)
- Must be willing to float as assigned
- Must be available for every other weekend and holiday shifts
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years nursing experience in specialty (higher value from data)
- Prior travel experience preferred but not strictly required
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with EPIC experience, ventilator experience, and required certifications who is flexible with floating and weekend/holiday availability.
