Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Facility Type: Short-term acute care, Level III Trauma Center, Teaching Hospital
Total Staffed Beds: 733
Charting System: Epic
Shift: PCU Nights (3 PM - 11 PM)
Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
Guaranteed Hours: Call-off policy allows 2 shifts off per 13-week assignment; thereafter, contracted hours are guaranteed.
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- Must Pass: Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
- Must Pass: EKG exam (no exceptions)
- Float Requirement: Yes, must float within scope to meet facility needs between like units
- Block Scheduling: Facility is open to accommodating block scheduling
- Locals: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule from main campus)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
- Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Military only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Military only
- NIH Stroke Certification – Must be updated annually
- Additional Certifications:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for certain units (ED, OR, Peds ED, PICU)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, FCCU, NICU units
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must be completed via Relias, renewed annually, minimum 80% score required, max 3 attempts allowed
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for awareness on multiple units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with remediation required after failures
- Background Check: Required within 6 months of start; includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year, signed by physician, NP, or PA-C; must be updated annually
- Vaccinations & Titers:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – Titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella – Titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B – Vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
- Flu Vaccine – Required year-round; medical or religious exemptions accepted with facility-specific forms; must be updated annually
- TB Screening: Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; annual renewal required
Facility Specific Requirements
- Photo for Badge: Professional passport-style photo required (no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless religious)
- Completion of Facility Forms: Includes emergency contact, confidentiality agreement, patient ID agreement, conflict of interest questionnaire, staff call out acknowledgement, corporate code of conduct, policy tech access, professional appearance, parking registration (if driving), computer use acknowledgement, flu policy review, and job description acknowledgment
- Orientation: Candidates should plan to be in orientation for most of the first day (Monday)
- Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year before returning as a traveler; system limits to 2 contracts with one extension allowed, then 6 months off before returning
Additional Notes
- Scrub Color: Royal blue and white
- Interview Availability: Must be provided upon submission
- Scheduling: Candidates should specify if interested in 36 or 48 hours per week; default is 36 hours if not specified
