Neuro Stepdown & EMU Nurse (6E) - Morgantown, West Virginia

Contract Details

  • Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Holiday Requirement: Travelers expected to work holiday rotations
  • Floating: Possible float to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W

Unit Information

  • Unit: 10 EAST (Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit)
  • Beds: 31 total (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Stepdown: 1:3
    • EMU Floor: 1:5-6
  • Charge Nurse: Available 24/7
  • Nurse Aids: Yes, 4 per shift (ratios 1:8-9)
  • Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7; floor vents managed by RT and physicians; RN vent experience not required
  • Telemetry: Present; RNs do not read strips

Required Certifications & Skills

  • Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
  • Experience: Strong neuroscience nursing experience required; Stepdown qualified RNs only
  • EPIC experience: Required
  • Drip Titration: Generally by physician orders; some protocols may allow RN titration with education
  • Common Drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin

Patient Population

  • Higher acuity neuroscience patients including:
    • EVDs (experience preferred)
    • Stroke patients (post-TPA patients managed by permanent staff)
    • EMU patients with seizures
    • Post-craniotomy patients

Orientation & Dress Code

  • Orientation: 2 shifts on unit plus weekend day shift (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Additional Requirements

  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Fully vaccinated required (2 Moderna/Pfizer or 1 J&J); medical or religious exemptions require approval
  • Licensing: Any license issues must be disclosed at submission
  • Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Other: Drivers license address must be outside 50 miles from facility; submission restrictions apply for previous candidates and travelers
