Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Dunn, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
  • Required Years of Experience: 2 years in ICU
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call Requirement: No
  • Floating: Must be able and willing to float between both campuses within scope
  • Locals Accepted: No (50-mile radius rule applies)
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Guaranteed Hours: Call off policy of 2 shifts per 13-week assignment; after that, all contracted shifts are guaranteed

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Military only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Military only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP)

Staffing Ratios

  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:3

Special Requirements & Policies

  • Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • System Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
  • Background check required within 6 months of start
  • Interview availability required upon submission

  • Scrub Colors: Royal blue and white

Required Competencies & Testing

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual renewal required)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with remediation and multiple attempts policy
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for ICU and other specified units

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within last 10 years, no declinations accepted for new candidates)
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days
  • Flu vaccine required year-round; medical or religious exemptions require facility approval and must be resubmitted annually
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required but accepted if available

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for block scheduling accommodations
  • Return travelers must adhere to system contract limits and return policies
  • Background checks include SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable
  • Convictions within the last year or open/active cases will result in cancellation

This position is ideal for ICU Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of ICU experience who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who meet the comprehensive certification and health requirements.
