Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Indianapolis, Indiana
Job Details

Unit & Patient Acuity
- Medical PCU (Progressive Care Unit) with almost ICU-level acuity
- Patients include those on multiple cardiac drips, stable ventilators, multi-organ failure, liver failure, and pulmonary conditions
- Staffing ratio: 1:5
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
- Required skills include:
- Titrating cardiac drips
- Starting IVs
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Charge nurse experience
- Floating may be required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) with resources provided
Prior Travel Experience
- First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)
Work Expectations
- Weekend shifts: Expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
- Call-ins: Must make up missed shifts during the pay period or add shifts at the end of the contract depending on FTE status
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with provided training and resources
- Precepting and/or student shadowing may be required as this is a teaching facility
Certification Requirements
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS/BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Licensure & Compliance
- Indiana RN license required (note: effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs will generally not be allowed to work at these facilities except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as required
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers required or strongly recommended:
- TB test within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)
Competency & Orientation
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) required
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, safety manuals, and acknowledgment forms required
- Mandatory completion of IU Health RRT modules for applicable roles (22 modules with strict deadlines)
Additional Notes
- Floating to different units may be required
- Teaching facility: precepting and student assignments possible
- Charge nurse duties may be assigned with training
- Call-in shift policies depend on FTE status
- Indiana RN license restrictions effective 11/30/24 with exceptions for certain specialties
