Description
Job Opportunity: Pediatric Cath Lab Tech (Travel/Contract)
Location: Portland, Oregon
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Pediatric Cath Lab Tech
- Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (07:00 - 17:30)
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, only when taking call
- On-call Requirement: Yes
- Floating: No
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated unless specified
- Locals and first-time travelers accepted
- Pending license accepted if application is submitted and received by the licensing board
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 1-2 weeks max
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians during pediatric cardiac catheterization procedures using complex radiologic imaging equipment (fluoroscopy, ultrasonography)
- Operate imaging equipment for both adult and congenital cardiac procedures
- Cross-train in other service areas such as EP and Hybrid OR
- Prepare patients and supplies under sterile conditions
- Scrub in and assist during procedures, including fine motor tasks like threading stents and balloons
- Obtain accurate x-rays while ensuring patient safety and comfort
- Operate automatic injectors and select appropriate contrast agents under physician direction
- Provide patient care during examinations in collaboration with staff
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, coordinate borrowing equipment as needed
- Work independently on-call with physicians and nurses
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Valid Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider only, traditional AHA certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA provider only, traditional AHA certification required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA provider only, traditional AHA certification required
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating radiologic equipment or equivalent specialized training and experience (higher of 1 year stated in description and 2 years in qualifications is 2 years)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Pediatrics experience
- Cardiac Interventional and/or Vascular Interventional certification from ASRT (RCES or RCIS preferred)
- Knowledge and skills in EP/Cath Lab technology
Certifications & Compliance
- Must have current and valid BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (AHA traditional provider only; e-cards must be employer verified)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) certification preferred (AHA/AAP only)
- State license primary source verification required within 60 days prior to start
- Background checks including education verification, work history verification, national sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG must be completed prior to start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
- Physical exam and fit mask testing required (fit mask within 1 year prior to start)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or signed declination)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (immune titer, vaccines, or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (deadline 12/01/2025)
Additional Requirements
- Two manager or supervisor references from the last 24 months required
- Employment application must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position
- Radiation badge (dosimetry) required prior to start for Cath Lab techs
- Competency exams required with a passing score of 85% or higher
- Color blindness testing required for phlebotomists (not applicable here)
- Facility-specific policies and professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Completion of facility-required orientation modules (Compass modules) prior to badge issuance
