Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Toledo, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Renal 7 Acute - PCU)
  • Unit: Mixed unit including PCU, Med Surg Tele, and Med Surg
  • Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Patient Diagnoses: Renal, Urology, and Vascular conditions
  • Ratios: 1:4 all shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, every other weekend
    • Nightshift weekends: Friday and Saturday
    • Dayshift weekends: Saturday and Sunday
  • Floating: Yes, within service line and between multiple facilities as needed
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: No (local radius rule excludes travelers within 50 miles)
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Greater than 7 days requires management approval

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (AHA provider, instructor, or RQI acceptable)
    • BCLS (AHA provider, instructor, or RQI acceptable)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually unless 2-year expiration)

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Telemetry and cardiac monitoring with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Care for patients with renal failure, including CAPD and CBI procedures
  • Peripheral IV line care and management
  • Heparin protocols preferred
  • Respiratory care including nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
  • Computerized charting preferred in EPIC system

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • 7-year background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually
  • Fingerprinting (Ohio BCI and FBI) required within 12 months for applicable units, updated annually
  • Education verification required (primary source verification)
  • NURSYS verification required for RN licenses

Health & Immunization

  • Physical exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available)
  • N95 Fit Test within 12 months, updated annually (KN95 not accepted)
  • Tdap within 10 years or declination accepted
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 3 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption required
  • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption required
  • Hepatitis B series, positive titer, or declination required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (instant acceptable unless on prescription)

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually for RNs (pass/fail with remediation options)
  • Conscious sedation competency exam required for ER and ICU units

Other Requirements

  • 2 professional references within 2 years, including at least one from a leader (Charge RN or above)
  • Skills checklist required for all candidates
  • Dress code: Navy or White scrubs

Additional Notes

  • Floating may include Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Orthopedic, Trauma, Oncology, General Surgery, Urology/Vascular, and Observation units
  • Candidates must complete a time-sensitive agency form at least 10 days prior to start (includes photo submission for badge)
  • No local travelers within 50 miles accepted for this position

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in acute care renal or PCU settings, who hold current ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke certifications, and are comfortable working weekends and floating between units and facilities. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
