Description

Registered Nurse (Med Surg Tele RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night Shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Total Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Units: Float within units of equivalent or lower acuity including General Surgery, Trauma, Vascular, Wound, and Plastics departments
  • On-call: No on-call duty required

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (highest requirement found)
  • Certifications:
    • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
    • Proficiency in IV starts, telemetry, and intermediate nursing skills
    • Prior experience with Epic electronic health record system is mandatory
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Compliance & Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is part of the job
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio codes for processing
  • Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases
  • Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree from accredited institutions
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (check unit-specific requirements)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for ER-related units only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units only
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification as applicable
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Facility Policies & Additional Requirements

  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse compliance training and acknowledgment required
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

This position offers a structured night shift schedule with no on-call duties, serving a variety of surgical and trauma units. Candidates must have solid Med Surg Tele RN experience, proficiency with Epic, and meet comprehensive background, health, and certification requirements.
