Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in the Emergency Department (ED) with approximately 60%-80% admission rate; many ED rooms serve as "ED Holding."
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
- Medication administration including IV medications following the seven medication rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
- Patient ratios: 1 nurse to 5 patients.
- Floating: Optional to Pediatric ED; expected to float to Adult PCUs and potentially ED Holding and Trauma based on staffing needs.
- Weekend work required as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights).
- No on-call required.
- No locals accepted within 75 miles radius.
- New Mexico nursing license can be pending at time of submission.
- COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
- TNCC certification required before submission; NIH certification can be pending until compliance due date before start.
- Prior travel experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates with 2+ years of Level 1 trauma experience may be considered even without travel experience. First-time travelers accepted.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval.
- Overtime rules: OT after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required (will review candidates with 1.5 years).
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or ARC, RQI not accepted
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Must be completed before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification – Any vendor acceptable; use expiration date on card
- Other certifications that may be required depending on unit: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure), ENPC, CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) for Behavioral Health units
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (Pass/Fail testing) required for ED and related units; must score 80% overall and 100% on Lethal Arrhythmia section
Licensure
- New Mexico RN license required; can be pending at time of submission.
- Must bring original NM license with 3D seal onsite for display if working in radiology areas.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
- Education verification required; diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start (negative result)
- Physical exam required within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Immunizations required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine (year-round, with exemptions accepted)
- COVID vaccination no longer required but reporting still necessary
Additional Notes
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted).
- Location is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation.
- Work Experience Verification: 3 years of previous work experience must be verified.
- Two professional references within three years of hire required.
- Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents and attestations prior to start, including compliance forms and training acknowledgements.
- Floating to other units may be required based on staffing needs.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
This position is suitable for nurses with strong emergency and trauma experience, preferably with prior travel experience, who are flexible with weekend shifts and floating within the facility.
