Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks (3 months)
Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
Hours: 36 hours per week offered
Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend)
Floating: Required as needed, potential to float every shift
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (highest required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; 1st time travelers accepted
- Required Skills:
- Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring
- Pre/Post Cardiac Cath and Cardiac Surgery experience
- Sheath removal
- Accessing ports, blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care management
- Cardiac drip titration (Diltiazem, Amiodarone)
- Required Certification: ACLS
- Preferred Skills: Charge nurse experience
- Preferred Certification: NIH Stroke Certification
Unit & Patient Details
- Unit Type: Cardiac monitoring unit
- Patient Diagnoses: Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, Post Cardiac Cath
- Special Procedures: Cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine), sheath pulls, TR Bands, Femstop
- Systems Used: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
Orientation & Training
- Unit Orientation: 24 hours
- EKG Testing: Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Storm/Hurricane Team: Contract staff expected to work during catastrophic events or disasters
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must pass with 82% or higher on first attempt within 72 hours
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Self-scheduling per unit needs
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite
- Maximum 7 days RTO allowed for auto-offer
- Contract length accepted: 13 to 26 weeks
Required Background & Health Documentation
- Criminal background check within 90 days covering local, federal, national databases, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
- Immunizations/Titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines, no declinations accepted
- Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines, no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility-specific declination form if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care RNs
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules prior to start (up to 8 hours)
- Must sign confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
- Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire)
- Must complete Medication Safety training module and submit certificate
- May be required to complete CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training if assigned to ER or Behavioral Health
- Radiation badge required if working in Cath Lab or related specialties
Additional Notes
- Contract staff may be reassigned mid-contract to different units as needed
- Scrubs not provided; Navy color recommended
- Candidates must interview prior to finalizing offer
