Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Job Details

  • Shift Requirement: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • First Time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Floating: Yes
  • Charge Nurse Coverage: May be required based on operational needs; training and resources provided. Candidates must be comfortable with potential charge nurse responsibilities.
  • Unit: Medical Surgical unit adjacent to Emergency Department; functions similarly to a clinical decision unit for observation patients.
  • Patient Diagnoses: Medical Surgical only, including COVID, abdominal pain, respiratory distress, and symptom-based cases requiring further workup.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience Required: 2 years
  • Required Skills:
    • Medical/Surgical nursing
    • Starting IVs
    • Nasal Cannula management
    • CERNER electronic health record system experience
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Previous charge nurse experience

Certification Requirements

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Licensure & Compliance

  • Indiana RN license required (note: as of 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers)
  • Online license verification required within 30 days before start
  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and education verification required
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 12 months of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific respirators approved)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • TB test within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required (no declinations accepted)
  • Color blind testing required (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit competency exam required

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years; references must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or higher
  • Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
  • Candidates must be comfortable with potential charge nurse duties if needed.
  • This position does not accept first-time travelers or local candidates.
  • Floating to other units may be required.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Med/Surg RNs with at least 2 years of specialty experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced observation unit and have strong clinical and documentation skills.
