ICU RN Opportunity - Martinsburg, West Virginia
Specialty
- ICU (MICU/SICU/Neuro)
- Unit size: 20 beds (average daily census 16-17)
- Common patient types: post cath lab, balloon pumps (usually for permanent staff but considered for experienced travelers), thoracic surgery consults bi-monthly, no open heart surgeries, no CRRT
- Patient ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:3 in Stepdown
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- PALS preferred
- TNCC preferred
Experience
- Specialty years of experience: 20 years (as indicated by specialty "ICU - 20")
- No explicit mention of prior travel experience required
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Night shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights; Sat/Sun days)
- Holiday scheduling minimized for travelers when possible
Orientation
- 1st day: general hospital orientation
- 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
Work Environment & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC
- Ventilators: Servo & Hamilton (managed by RTs; RNs may silence alarms after notifying RT)
- IV pumps: Braun IV pumps for typical drips including moderate conscious sedation
- Telemetry: Phillips Cardiac Monitors, central monitoring station
- No IV team; RTs and pharmacy available 24/7 on unit
- Charge Nurse available 24/7, acts as free charge nurse but may take patient if needed
- Nurse aides and students present for support and observation but not counted in staffing
Additional Information
- COVID vaccine required (2 Moderna/Pfizer or 1 J&J); medical/religious exemptions require approval
- Scrub color: Navy blue scrubs, navy or white jacket, white or navy undershirt; natural hair color required; tattoos must be covered if distasteful
- Floating: Travelers typically do not float outside ICU unless assigned to float pool
- Drivers license address must be outside 50 miles from facility
- Background checks must be disclosed at submission
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with a high-acuity environment and working in a structured, supportive team with a focus on critical care patients.
