Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Oregon
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP (4 weeks from offer for compliance requirements)
  • Shift: 4x10 hour evening shifts (11:00 AM - 9:30 PM)
  • Work Hours: 40 hours per week guaranteed
  • On-Call: Yes, four 8-hour call shifts per 4-week cycle
  • Weekend Requirement: To be determined
  • Floating: No floating within or to sister facilities
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • Strong proficiency in Robotics, vascular, and ophthalmology surgeries
  • Comfortable working in a busy Level 2 Trauma Center (Level 2 trauma experience required, Level 1 preferred)
  • Experience with the following surgical areas and procedures:
    • Eyes: Vitrectomies, Scleral Buckles, Retina, Cataracts (must-have)
    • Orthopedics: Total joints and trauma (2 years of Level 1-2 experience)
    • Neurosurgery: Including craniotomies (2 years of Level 1-2 experience)
    • General Surgery/Trauma
    • Vascular Surgery: AAA, Carotids, Femoral cases (mastery required)
    • Gynecology/Urology
    • Robotics: Experience with Da Vinci Xi and DV5 robots (Robotic Center of Excellence)
  • Must be able to scrub independently without a sales rep for knees, hips, and preferably shoulders
  • Prior travel experience required (first-timers not accepted)

Certifications Required

  • CST certification (mandatory)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit and specialty

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background checks required within 60 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, counties/states lived/worked, federal and national criminal checks)
  • Social Security verification required (candidates may start pending this)
  • Education verification required (transcripts or diploma acceptable if school closed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start required and updated annually (N95 fit testing onsite if providing patient care)
  • Drug testing required within 30 days of start (specific panels required)
  • Immunizations and health documentation required, including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (full vaccine or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or declination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination
    • Varicella immunity or declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • Orientation modules and quizzes must be completed prior to start with a 100% score
  • Various facility-specific forms and policies must be reviewed and completed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Must be comfortable with a high volume of cases (60-70 per day)
  • Strong eye, AAA, and craniotomy experience is critical
  • Must sign SSA release and comply with PeaceHealth orientation and compliance requirements
  • No floating or block scheduling confirmed yet
  • Travel experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered

This position is ideal for experienced CSTs with strong trauma, robotics, and specialty surgical skills looking for a travel contract in a Level II Trauma Center environment.
