Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with cardiac experience for a travel/contract role. The position requires working 36 or 48-hour shifts, with overtime paid after 48 hours on the longer shift.
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Cardiac experience required
- Must have experience working in Step-Down (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a 1:5 patient ratio documented in work history (ICU experience does NOT count toward SD/PCU experience)
- Preferred: 1.5 years of experience at level 1 or 2
- Prior travel experience preferred (not strictly required)
Patient Ratios & Nursing Model
- Targeted patient ratios: 1:4, can be up to 1:5-6
- Unit may use a team nursing model partnering RNs, LPNs, and PCTs to care for patient groups
- Nurses may function in team nursing or primary nursing depending on unit needs
Required Skills & Certifications
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
- Must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
- BLS and ACLS certification required; must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
- Experience with drawing arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Must be fitted for N95 respirator prior to working on the High-Risk Respiratory Unit (HRRU) unless PAPR is offered/needed
Floating & Scheduling Requirements
- Traveler will be first to float at Premier’s discretion, floating in/out of specialty clusters including high-risk respiratory/COVID units
- Floating may include main campus and nearby campuses within 15 miles
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census
- Employer may cancel agreement with 2 weeks’ notice without fee or fine
Unit Details
- Work involves telemetry, drips, and drawing ABGs
- Cardiac procedures include cardiac catheterizations, ablations, pacers, ICDs
- Medications administered include Cardizem, Cardene, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, nitro, and insulin drips
- Navy blue scrubs required
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Must pass a 7-year criminal background check and other standard background screenings
- Required certifications:
- ACLS (AHA only)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start, updated annually)
- Competency exams required:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency within 2 years
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency within 1 year or must pass within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts max)
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual update if past positive)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening within 12 months, including marijuana panel (medical marijuana use not accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
- Must submit medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation
- Two professional references required (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
- Current resume/application required
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year and annually
Additional Notes
- Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Floating assignments will be medically appropriate
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
This position is ideal for RNs with cardiac and step-down/progressive care experience looking for a 13-week travel contract in Ohio with a reputable healthcare system.
