Job Summary: Radiology / Cardiology Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rahway, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position for a general Radiology Technologist working evening shifts alongside another tech.
  • Patient population primarily from the Emergency Department (ED), STAT inpatients (mostly portable chest X-rays), and some walk-in outpatients in the late afternoon.
  • Every other weekend work required.
  • Block scheduling available.
  • Locals accepted.
  • 3 years of specialty experience required; however, years of experience may be negotiable with suitable prior work experience.
  • First-time travelers accepted.

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years in Radiology/Cardiology (default to higher if discrepancies found).
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted.

Scheduling

  • Evenings shift.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Block scheduling available.

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Preferred but not explicitly required for Radiology Techs.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Criminal background check required within 30 days of start.
  • Must include all aliases, all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, and various federal/state databases.
  • Pending background checks require attestation of no pending charges or criminal history.
  • No open cases allowed at start.

Health & Immunization

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray required (within 3 months of start).
  • Physical exam within the past year, confirming clearance to perform job functions and free of communicable disease.
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum).
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
  • Fit test for respirator use if job tasks require it (e.g., wearing gloves, respirator).

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs/LPNs (may not apply to techs).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for applicable units.
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year if job tasks require color discrimination.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of annual education and safety sign-offs (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing policies.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
  • References: 2 within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • New Jersey state-specific exclusions list check required within 30 days of start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must provide government-issued photo ID and driver’s license within 48 hours of signing.
  • Photo for badge must be a headshot with a plain, light-colored background, facing the camera, no filters.
  • Floating policy must be completed for every new assignment or site transfer.
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start.
  • Candidates with facial hair must shave prior to fit testing unless approved for accommodation (e.g., PAPR use).
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required only for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not applicable here).
